Week 3 Discussion Question

In Chapter 5 Maria is amazed by the new snowfall outside of her window. She "couldn't tear herself away from her bedroom window...the city seemed to be wrapped in silence...she didn't want to do anything to disturb the wonderful, newly fallen snow." She is made happy by this beautiful site. But by the end of the day, Maria gets on the bus and looks out the window "she saw that the morning's bright, clean snow had been shoveled and trampled, and was now covered with soot and grime." How is Maria like the snow? How did she start the day like the snow and end the day like the snow? What happened to her at school to cause this change? Make sure to really explain your thinking and use examples to support your ideas.

  1. Maria is like snow because in the morning she was happy she had a clean slate just like how the snow was fresh and not trampled. In class Maria’s teacher asked her if she wanted to be in the winter pageant and was not patient enough to let Maria answer or ask what was the question she said “Well, it looks likes Mary doesn't want to be in the winter pageant.” That made Maria sad. On the way home Maria saw that the snow was trampled and not fresh anymore just like Maria.

  2. At school Maria forgot to answer to the name Mary Lopez again and now she can not be in the school play. She had a beautiful morning like the snow was so beautiful, but she had a crummy afternoon, and the snow got shoveled and was not pretty kind of like Maria.

    1. Brady I totally agree with you your right she loved the snow in the morning but after she forgot the name Mary Lopez at school so that made the teacher mad and she gave her the greeting job and all she wanted was to be in the Winter Pageant and so she had a crummy afternoon after the day

    2. Brady I like how you explained how Maria had a crummy afternoon because it really puts a clear picture in your mind of why she feels bad and unhappy by the teacher jumping to conclusions.

  3. My Name is Maria Isabel

In chapter 5 Maria started the day looking out the window to see the window and she ended the day not caring about the snow that she loved watching the change was that she wanted to be in The Winter Pageant. And her Teacher did not even let Maria talk she just gave her the greeting job and she just wanted to be In It. That Is the change of why she did not want to watch the snow on the bus ride home because all she wanted was to be in the Winter Pageant because that was her dream.

    1. Jaydon I really like how you explained how Maria’s dream was to be in the winter pagent instead of saying that Maria wanted to be in the winter pagent. Also I like how you explained how the snow was wrecked.

  4. I agree except she still cared about the snow she the shoveled snow just reminded her of how crummy it was to not be in the play. But over all great work.

  5. Maria likes the snow, she thinks it looks like an enchanted tunnel. She did not want to step in the new snow so so she stepped in her brothers foot prints; She stepped in her brothers foot prints because she loved the new snow. At the end of the day Maria did not so much like the snow because at the beginning of the day she did not answer to Mary Lopez so she has to stay outside and tell people where to go and where to put their jackets.
